1 Balhousie Avenue ARTIST STATEMENT Recently I have taken a journey “back to school” to do a post graduate study in drawing and painting at Leith School of Art. The result of this intensive year of work I am calling ‘ABOUT TIME’. It focuses on the walk I took across Northern Spain on the ancient pilgrimage path from the Pyrenees to Santiago de Compostella. It was important to me to display the paintings in such a way as to describe the passage of time as a whole and yet be able to look into each panel as a painted memory. Ultimately I began to link this with my long time fascination with screens and screen art. I had begun to learn about them in Japan where I saw them in their natural settings, that is as places of protection from the wind or the sun, and as decorative, movable spaces which takes art off the walls and allows the viewer to make a personal walk around the painted space.
