INGRID BELL

Statement

I am an artist/printmaker and art therapist who has exhibited worldwide and participated in numerous printmaking shows.
From 1983-85 I studied woodblock printmaking in Japan, having been awarded the Japanese ‘Monbusho’ scholarship. From Japan I moved to Denmark where I have many works, including paintings, in private collections and corporate businesses. From 1987-88 I moved to Spain producing works, mostly paintings and inks on paper for exhibiting back in Denmark. On returning  I set up my own gallery ‘BellFree’ in Copenhagen promoting both national and international artists.
I currently live and work in Edinburgh as a practising artist/art therapist and am producing work for both independent and group shows returning to my preferred medium of printmaking.

My current work explores the idea of personal environment, cultural history and memory and how one integrates these in an ever-changing world.
I combine elements of multicultural reference and the changing industrial landscape.
I believe the emotional complexity of containing multicultural history is increasingly a more universal experience. It is something of these ambiguous experiences I attempt to share with the viewer through the medium of printmaking.
