artist statement
The content of my personal work has for some years now been driven by my fascination with light in relation to architecture and the land. My current work is rooted in the landscape of my childhood; though many of the double exposed images I photographed were taken in the Lake District, they evoke for me a memory of the mountain in whose shadow I lived under as a child whilst growing up in Iran. It represents joy, loss and longing. As an extension to this theme I am particularly inspired by notions of ‘paradise’ and ‘the garden’. I was recently awarded an Arts Council England Award for research and development to aid me in the production of new work based on the theme ‘Liminal’, which toured as a solo show.

I am an Iranian-born British artist working in contemporary photographic art, drawing, architectural glass and time based media. Trained in Edinburgh, Winchester and Barcelona with a Doctorate of Philosophy from the University of Gloucestershire, I have worked on a number of national and international residencies, exhibitions and have a number of public realm commissions across the UK.
