KATE HENDERSON

Statement:

Kate Henderson was elected an associate Master Glass painter in 2008. She has established a portfolio of commissioned stained glass panels and windows in public and private buildings across Scotland and Europe. The subject matter within her painting and glass work reflects her interest in Historic Architecture and Archaeology. She is intrigued by the colours and textures of worn surfaces from these buildings and found objects. She creates work which involves layering a variety of materials before rubbing back through with abrasives to reveal or partly reveal the surface below. This allows Kate to reveal fragments of hidden interest within the piece.
Her recent work responds to becoming a mother and losing her father after a long deteriorating illness. The circle has become a symbol which represents to her the continuous cycle of life. She is interested in the fragmenting of its shape and by re organising the individual sections of the circle, reflecting the delicate journey of life.
