On the most basic level, my work reflects my enduring fascination with painting and drawing. These are activities I have always very much enjoyed, and my fascination with them has developed into an interest in the mechanics of drawing and painting. The formal aspects of the production of a piece are therefore important to me.

On another level my work reflects my fascination with the physical world I inhabit, and my emotional response to it. These two things are perhaps inextricably connected, since the subjects I choose invariably have some symbolic significance, which might either be very personal, or more universally understandable.

There is also a sense in which my work is expressionist, and fulfils a need, in a way that is difficult to adequately explain. On this level my work is more visceral, and my approach more sensual in a way that somehow is in accord with, or reflective of my inner emotional processes.

My work is most successful, I feel, when I can achieve some kind of balance between these elements, when they combine effectively in a painting.
