SILVANA McLEAN

Silvana McLean was born in Motherwell and studied Drawing and Painting at Glasgow School of Art.
Although based in Dumfriesshire, an enduring interest in the island life and archaeology of Scotland and Ireland has led to involvement in the Great Book of Gaelic project - a cross cultural collaboration between the two countries. A three- month Artist's Residency in Shetland has further developed an already textured picture surface built up with gesso and glazes - its layering of materials evoking the layers of the past and in conjunction with natural objects creating a strong sense of place.
Printmaking (etching) is a current passion and the embossed surface of the etched image continues the interest in variations of depth . Each discipline enhances and influences the other.
