Vanessa Wenwieser

Vanessa is originally from Munich, Germany and graduated from the Glasgow School of Art in 2003 with a degree in Fine Art Photography.

“The subject of my photographs is journey : embodying physical travel as well as mental”

Inspired by the city of Glasgow and its industrial landscapes, her images are moody, often the city and its inhabitants are drenched by rain, the focus unclear, blurry. Many of her images are taken from above which further enhances the feeling of being removed from the everyday and reflecting upon humanity and the cyclical nature of life, sublimated by the icy evening light reflected in the rain or snow. The red light illuminating the otherwise monochromatic background of the city and industrial landscapes make them seem like dream-like apocalyptic visions.
