On 7 June, Her Majesty the Queen, accompanied by President Hollande and the Mayoress of Paris, Madame Hidalgo, unveiled Diane Maclean’s sculpture Open Book, as a gift to the people of Paris.
This was was the final event of the Queen’s visit to France commemorating the D-Day Landings. Open Book was chosen to represent the future relationship between our two countries. On the accompanying plaque the words:
“An open book we are writing together” – “Un livre ouvert que nous ecrivons ensemble” are inscribed.
Fondation Cartier sponsored the event.
For the ceremony, Open Book was installed in the Place Louis Lepine on the Ile de la Cite. It will be re-located in due course to a permanent site in central Paris.
