Contemporary Art Open 2000

The year 2000 is proving to be a year of new ventures and directions for the SSA. A year of curatorial collaborations, celebrating new talent; educating new graduates; and continuing to place great importance on outreach, nationally and internationally.

The submissions for this year's SSA 2000 contemporary Art Open were substantial and of a very high standard, resulting in an exciting array of exhibits, that challenge, question, and imbue the viewer with their beauty and sensitivity. There are dotted around the building, numerous gems, amongst the more potent icons present. We had fewer submissions for sculpture and video this year, but greater numbers of installations, many of them exceptional in quality and concept.

The year 2001 to 2002 will be challenging years for the SSA, as the RSA building will be closing for major renovations. We are in the midst of negotiating exciting alternative spaces for the SSA during this period. An opportunity for renewal and expansion into the new century.
