In a Jiffy, Saturday Social

This informal event marked the end of the remarkable show ‘In a Jiffy’ and offered a great opportunity to meet up over a coffee or a glass of wine and take part in a series of exciting, gallery based activities and participatory artworks, devised and delivered by SSA Professional Members.

The President and Council of the SSA would like to thank the following artists for helping to make this a wonderfully successful event: Aidan Bremner, Chrissie Heughan, Diane Mclean, Anne Russell and Catherine Sargeant.

Aidan produced caricatures in record time; Diane worked with visitors to create a suspended sculpture using doilies, paper and cellophane; Catherine encouraged people to type messages that will inform her new artwork on her type writer; and Chrissie and Anne showed visitors how to collage, cut and fold paper boats.

Much fun was had by all ages!

‘It was a success in so many ways – meeting new (and old) faces and for the SSA reaching out to the communities in more rural areas – such an inspirational opportunity for the school pupils and teachers being involved too’ – Anne Russell

‘It was great to be part of the Saturday Social and I really enjoyed doing the suspended piece with beautiful and thoughtful contributions from visitors. Taking the SSA to venues across Scotland will definitely appeal to artists who don’t live or work in the ‘central belt’. I always feel too remote living in the south, but the journey for me is part of the deal, whether it’s Inverness, Dumfries, Portree or Edinburgh. I’ve brought back a memory of snow on the mountains to the soaking south’. – Diane Mclean
