A portrait by SSA member Mark Mulholland will hang at the National Portrait Gallery, London this summer as part of the BP Portrait Award 2014. The prestigious annual international painting competition and exhibition had a record number of entrants totaling 2,377. Mulholland explains,
“John allowed me to paint him in a relaxed moment – playing one of his beloved guitars, which often appear in his own work. Working around him has shown me what true commitment and passion for your art really means. His work rate is immense; his enthusiasm for art is so contagious.”
Mulholland is one of only three Scots out of the 55 selected exhibitors to show in this the 25th year of the competition. An image of his painting has also been featured in the Gallery’s ‘What’s On Guide’.
The exhibition runs from 26 June to 21 September 2014 at the National Portrait Gallery, London. The exhibition will then tour to Sunderland Museum and Winter Gardens (4 October, 2014 – 16 November, 2014) and The Scottish National Portrait Gallery, Edinburgh (28 November – 12 April, 2015).
