My interest is in exploring new approaches to figurative painting. I paint rapidly using simple brushstrokes and colours, to avoid inconsequential detail, to create elements of abstracion within a naive form. I aim to capture spontaneously the fundamental character and essence of a being and to convey the emotion of love. My work is especially influenced by cave paintings and naive art.
I aim to make the heart sing. To quote Jons Mekas " I concentrate in my work and in my life only on the celebration of life. That's what I am about. I am celebrating life and having a joyful relationship to life. I am a propagandist for happiness and beauty."
I would like my paintings to give pleasure to people who are not normally interested in art.

I studied at Edinburgh College of Art and at the Royal College of Art, where I was awarded the Henriques Prize for best woman artist. I have also been awarded the David Murray Award for Landscape Painting by the Royal Academy.
My work has been shown in numerous exhibitions, including:
The First Edinburgh Open 100; The Scottish Pernod Competition; The Centenary Exhibition of the Pastel Society; The Royal Scottish Academy Annual Exhibition; The Royal Academy Summer Exhibition; The Russian State Library, St Petersburg; The Outside the White Cube Exhibition, London; Visual Art Scotland Annual Exhibition, Edinburgh and The Arusha Gallery, Edinburgh.
