SSA Professional Member, Phil McLoughlin, has won a premier award at this year’s Royal Glasgow Institute Exhibition in the McLellan Galleries in Glasgow. This year’s exhibition, which has been presented annually since 1861, features almost 500 paintings and sculptures and returns to the refurbished McLellan Galleries in Sauchiehall Street, its traditional home, after an absence of more than a decade.
Phil received the Walter Scott Purchase Prize (£2000) at the gala evening on Friday 8th Nov from President Karin Currie, for his painting ‘Benediction of the Air’.
In addition to the works he is showing in Glasgow, Phil is also showing at the Walker Galleries in Harrogate and the Gallery Heinzel in Aberdeen. He is preparing new work for a show at the Biscuit Factory Gallery in Newcastle, the UK’s largest independent contemporary commercial art gallery.
Dunfermline-born Phil only returned to painting in 2007 after spending more than 35 years as a psychotherapist, author and university professor in England, Ireland and Japan. In 2011 he won the MacFarlane Charitable Trust Award at the RGI and the same year he won the Artist and Illustrator Still Life prize. In 2012 he was elected a Professional Member of the Society of Scottish Artists.
