In 2012, SSA Member Ruth Nicol was awarded the prize for ‘best work by a recent graduate’ at the Royal Glasgow Institute of the Fine Arts’ 151st Annual Exhibition. The award included a cash prize and the opportunity of a solo exhibition at the Institute’s Kelly Gallery.

For this exhibition Ruth has documented urban and rural locations that play an important part in her life, either as a destination or as a route frequently travelled. By chance, each location is also physically linked by the River Clyde, which gave inspiration for the title ‘Tributary’. The title also alludes to the ways in which these locations have influenced the artist through the years.
