SSA/Engramme Exchange Programme 2012

In SSA 2011 the Society was delighted to host the wonderful work of Marianne Chevalier, the first Canadian artist to be exhibited in Scotland as part of the exciting new exchange project with the Engramme Studios in Quebec, Canada.

 

The Exchange Programme
The exchange programme has been set up to to create a dialogue between Scottish and Canadian artists working in the field of printmaking. During the Summer of 2011 we will be calling for submissions from SSA members to be considered for a solo exhibition in Quebec. Assistance will be given in Canada and there will be funds available to help with shipping of the work overseas. All members will be eligible. See below to register your interest in this project.

The Prize

A SOLO EXHIBITION IN QUEBEC 6th January – 12th February 2012

The Society of Scottish Artists in collaboration with Engramme Print Studio is offering all SSA members the opportunity to apply for this prestigious new award of a solo exhibition of prints in Quebec, Canada from 6th January – 12th February 2012.

Non members are eligible to apply for this opportunity by becoming ordinary members of the SSA. Non members can join at here. (no longer available)

The successful applicant will be selected by the Board of Governors at Engramme Print Studio in Quebec. The winner of the Engramme Prize will be announced by the end of October 2011.

Completed application form
An up to date C.V. and a brief artist statement (no more than 200 words)
10 – 15 jpeg images of proposed work for exhibition (Digital images submitted should be in JPEG format with the filename yoursurname1.jpg, yoursurname2.jpg etc to relate to the order on your form. Each image should be 72 ppi and should be no higher than 768 pixels and no wider than 1024 pixels. The file size should be no more than 1MB each, and emails should be limited to 5MB or five images per email)

Due to the nature of this project and the timings involved, applicants are expected to have a significant body of work, from which a selection can be made for the exhibition.

The gallery has several movable walls that can be arranged in various settings. This can be viewed at: www.flickr.com/photos/engramme where you will also see previous exhibitions.

Magnets are used to hang the prints. The windows of the gallery are covered with UV filters to protect the prints from sunlight.

The Society will give limited financial assistance towards postal costs.

ENGRAMME OFFERS:

To provide free gallery space for the exhibition, its basic equipment and to supervise the exhibition during the opening hours of the gallery.
To supply and mail out 450 invitation cards (mailing list of 400) 20 invitation cards will be sent to the artist for personal use.
Pay all costs for the private view reception.
Hang the exhibition and take down at the end of exhibition.
Arrange an introduction to any buyers or potential clients.
No commission will be taken by Engramme on any sales of work.
Engramme will be responsible for postage and return of any unsold works at close of exhibition.
All exhibited prints will be insured against fire, theft or vandalism up to limit of $15,000 CAD for the duration of exhibition. This insurance does not cover the transport of the prints.

REQUIREMENTS FROM THE ARTIST:

To insure all work during transport and provide an official valuation of the total value of prints to Engramme. (All insurance companies used must be accredited ones.)
To lend the prints to Engramme for the duration of exhibition.
The artist must take responsibility for packaging of prints, which must be contained in a travel proof, sturdy tube / container. (Should any of the work or container arrive in a damaged condition, and Engramme has to compensate for the packaging, the artist would be invoiced.)
Send a recent curriculum vitae and list of prints to be exhibited, including title, technique and selling price or estimated value of prints.
Send any relevant information for a press release, such as any previous reviews / publications, etc.

About Engramme Studios
Engramme is an artist run centre devoted to the promotion of original printmaking and has been for almost 40 years.

The only centre in Eastern Canada to offer specialized equipment in every single printmaking technique, including the digital print and UV serigraphy, Engramme continues to choose the renewal of this field as a privileged domain in visual arts creation. Engramme is particularly present in supporting the evolution of printmaking with its production and diffusion activities.
