MEMBER SPOTLIGHT | MAY CARNAN

The Society of Scottish Artists is made up of a broad and vibrant community of artists. In order to highlight the work of our members, we have introduced a monthly member spotlight where one SSA Member is selected at random to be featured across our website and social media channels.
This month’s spotlighted member is Artist Member, May Carnan.
May is a retired nurse and midwife with a Bsc in Health Studies and she worked in the NHS for over 20 years. A keen sketcher and painter, she now works from her studio in West Lothian.
She developed her passion for art whilst working as a theatre nurse in Glasgow and she attended night classes in painting. After retiring she decided to develop her interest and knowledge in art and attended day classes at Edinburgh college of art and The university of Edinburgh focusing on painting , drawing the figure and history of art, attending classes from 2008 she was awarded a Certificate of Higher Education in Art in 2013 from The University of Edinburgh.
May has attended many art summer schools at ECA and has also attended many atelier painting classes. May was delighted to be accepted at the RSA open in 2013.
She did voluntary work for Art in Health Care from 2014 and was at volunteer at SSA exhibitions. She became member of the Edinburgh Printmakers May is represented by The Marchmont Gallery, Edinburgh, The Line Gallery, Linlithgow and she regularly exhibits her work at The Tolbooth, Lanark.
