Artist Talk | Hans K Clausen

When surveillance is rife and media intrusive.

When conspiracy becomes ideology and fiction becomes fact.

When nations nurture fear.

When curiosity is discouraged.

When libraries are threatened.

We need a Winston Smith…

We need a Library of Victory and Truth

The Winston Smith Library of Victory and Truth (TWSLOV&T) is an international participatory project, an art installation, a sculpture, a library, a museum, a venue, a phenomena. It is a place for meeting, reading, writing, creating, performing, sharing, and debating. It has been created from 1,984 copies of George Orwell’s iconic novel 1984; donated and sourced from around the world, many personalised with notes, mementoes, and traces from previous owners.

Hans K Clausen is delighted to bring his Winston Smith Library to this year’s Society of Scottish Artist Annual Exhibition.

In the spirit of conversation and community that underpins the artwork Hans invites you to join him for a talk about the concept and creation of this unique library, its journey to Jura and its potential future. There will plenty of time for questions and discussion, and even an opportunity to become a part of this ambitious evolving artwork.
