This event poses questions relating to culture, its meaning, significance and role in the context of Russia’s full-scale invasion of Ukraine and is based on the speaker’s recent visit to that country, where he met and worked with a number of significant cultural figures. 

Dr Giles Hansen Sutherland, MA, M.Phil. MSc, PhD is art critic for The Times in Scotland. He gained his PhD at the University of Dundee with a doctoral thesis analysing Edinburgh Arts 1972-80, Richard Demarco’s experimental summer school which proposed a new creative pedagogy through the arts, and other disciplines.  Giles Sutherland has lectured in various institutions and organisations in Scotland and Europe and contributed to numerous internationally known journals, magazines and newspapers.
