MEMBER SPOTLIGHT | Alex Allan

The Scottish Society of Artists is home to a diverse and dynamic community of artists. To showcase the work of our members, we’ve launched a monthly member spotlight, where one SSA Member is chosen at random to be featured on our website and social media. This month, we are excited to highlight Artist Member, Alex Allan.
Alex is a Glasgow-based sculptor whose work looks at how cities, power and public life shape the way we see the world around us. Drawing on sculpture’s long history as well as everyday urban environments, he combines research, humour and play to make work that is often deceptively simple on the surface. His sculptures explore ideas of civic identity, planning, control and authority, while playing with the cultural meanings carried by different materials.
Alex graduated with an MFA in Sculpture from Edinburgh College of Art in 2011 and has since worked on public art projects. He is also co-founder of Govan Project Space.
