We live at a time where we are constantly bombarded with images and information. My work reflects my interest in slowing down, allowing myself time and space to engage with the smaller, gentler things in life that so often pass unnoticed. It is my reaction to a need to continually reestablish my personal space to allow me to engage with the significance of the detail.

In my work I am interested in process, the making of a painting, the physicality of the paint, the mark making, the journey from the first mark made to the finished piece. I enjoy leaving traces of that journey in the finished work.

I work intuitively. My work is a cycle of mark making, editing and re-painting, working in dialogue with the canvas, allowing the painting to suggest itself, until that dialogue is complete.

When making larger canvases I invite the viewer to step forward towards the painting, where the subtleties of the making of the piece become apparent and the painting, ironically, takes on a more intimate scale.
