Just the clothes on their back: bear witness Installation

I am an artist printmaker, a member of Edinburgh Printmakers Workshop. I love the varied landscapes of Scotland and collect landscape images of Scotland by driving around in a campervan painting en plein air with watercolour.
I am particularly interested in the textures and colours of the landscape. By collecting my images in watercolour I feel I record a real and vivid record of the colours. Once home I convert these images into collagraphs, which offer endless opportunity to portray texture, and print them, usually at Edinburgh Printmakers Workshop.
Sometimes I cut up used collagraph plates into knots and print the results so the previous landscape image can be seen through the knot.

Lindy Furby Biography
I am an artist printmaker and life long mountaineer. I first learnt to print while training as a teacher. After a career in a range of educational settings including special needs, I returned to art through a variety of courses, which enabled me to bring my two inspirations together. After an online foundation art course, I took courses with Alfons Bytautas at Edinburgh Printmakers and Peter Wray in Penzance. It was Peter who taught me to make collagraphs which have become my speciality.
I get my inspiration from the natural environment of Scotland and places I travel. I collect my images by painting en plein air with water colour , supported by photography.
I have exhibited in Edinburgh Printmakers winter exhibitions over the years, Chasing Rainbows (2010 Morvah Schoolhouse Gallery Morvah Cornwall), Fabric of the Land (Aberdeen 2014) ,In the Garden with Friends (Perth 2016) and To Absent Friends (2016) and Time is all Around (2017) both at St Columba’s Hospice Edinburgh. In February 2019 I undertook an artist’s residency in Forres.
Recently I have started to engage in conceptual art with an installation "Just the clothes on their backs:bear witness" expected to be shown by Cork Printmakers in August 2021 and "Discarded" shown at the Waterloo festiva,l London 2020.
