I have always been a keen craftswoman and came to focus on printmaking after I had been trusted with my father’s antique, cast iron letterpress which I wanted to bring back into use: the only way to save it was to learn how to use it. I am equally fascinated by the process of deciding which technique to apply and the physical production itself. Consequently, I enjoy working across a wide range of printmaking processes and draw my inspiration from journeys around the world as well as the beauty that I find all around Scotland.

Born in Bavaria, Germany, Ursula Pretsch moved to Scotland in 2001 and to Edinburgh in 2005. During an internship as studio assistant at Edinburgh Printmakers' studio she had the opportunity to work with and study under local master printmakers. Now a member artist, Ursula creates most of her work there. A selection of her work was exhibited at the 10e Triennale de l’Estampe Mondiale in Chamalieres, France, where she also engaged with the exhibition audience during intaglio printmaking demonstrations.
