MOVING TO BECOME A SCIO – MEMBER VOTE
The SSA Council proposes to change the SSA’s legal status from an Unincorporated Charity to an Incorporated Charity, known as a Scottish Charitable Incorporated Organisation (SCIO).
Becoming a SCIO will let the SSA provide more opportunities both in Scotland and internationally, helping us to contribute even more significantly to the development of contemporary Scottish culture.
As part of this process, the SSA Council has been working with Morton Fraser MacRoberts solicitors to draft a new SCIO constitution for the SSA. The new constitution has been modified to remove some outdated clauses, and to better reflect the SSA’s position as a contemporary organisation that supports over 1800 members.

Members of the SSA are now invited to vote on the following three points:
- Transitioning the SSA from an unincorporated charity, to a Scottish Charitable Incorporated Organisation (SCIO).
- Name change from “The Society of Scottish Artists” (SSA) to “The Scottish Society of Artists” (SSA).
- Changing the current constitution to allow 75% of members voting to dissolve the SSA in it’s current form.
VOTING TIMELINE
Voting will take place during the online AGM on Sunday 22 June, 11am. For those members unable to attend the AGM, an electronic vote will be available to cast your vote. Participants in this e-vote will be added to the participants in the final voting at the AGM as proxies.
Online voting opens Friday 23 May and all SSA Members (Artist, Student, Graduate, Professional) can submit their votes electronically via the link below. Each Member vote will only be counted once. All votes will be counted in the week commencing 23 June, and the results announced to the membership.
