123rd Annual Exhibition

It is with regret that the Society of Scottish Artists (SSA), The Royal Society of Painters in Watercolour (RSW), and Visual Arts Scotland (VAS) after discussion with the National Galleries of Scotland, announce the cancellation of the annual exhibitions at the Royal Scottish Academy (RSA), due to run from October 2020 until January 2021. Our decision is taken in response to the ongoing risks posed by the Covid-19 pandemic, and the need to prioritise the safety of our audiences, artists, participants, staff and volunteers. Installation, site-specific, audio and audio-visual work, interactive works, performance, animation and proposals for an unrealised work.

Artists from across the world are invited to apply to be part of the 123rd SSA Annual Exhibition, one of the largest shows of contemporary art in Scotland.

We encourage ambitious new artwork created specifically for the space, or existing artwork that is re-purposed for this exhibition. Artists should submit in this category if your work is site-specific, has special installation or equipment requirements, is a performance, or an unrealised idea that you will only create if selected for the exhibition.

The exhibition will take place at the Royal Scottish Academy, Edinburgh from 1 November – 26 November 2020.
