Statement

Statement

I’m a visual artist working in mixed media, digital and environmental art. I make layered works that incorporate natural, found and repurposed materials. I’m fascinated by the patterns and textures found on daily walks around my home in Moidart, on the West Coast of Scotland. I’m a beekeeper and forest gardener, and the rhythms of nature and outdoor wellbeing are fundamental to my creative practice. Seaweed, sand, plant fibres and beeswax find their way into my prints, collages and mixed media work.

Biography

Biography

Alison Durbin graduated in 1991 with a first class honours degree in Art from Reading School of Art (University of Reading). She worked with an arts collective, helping to establish and run the Rising Sun Arts Centre in Reading, and was part of a small team of artists who renovated, set up and managed “Gallery 28” adjoining the centre. She has since worked as an independent community artist, running creative workshops and socially engaged art projects that nurture and celebrate the connection between people and the environment.  Based in Berkshire (1991-94), Aberdeenshire (1995-98), India (1998-2001), Sussex (2001-10) and now settled in the West Highlands (2010-present), she is currently studying for an MA Art and Social Practice at the University of the Highlands and Islands.

Her work has been exhibited at Resipole Studios, Moray Arts Centre and Eden Court, Inverness. A mosaic commission for Aberdeenshire Council undertaken in 1998 can be viewed on the harbourside at Stonehaven.
