Statement

Celestine Thomas’ art is rooted in her lifelong fascination with colour, further fueled by her experience as a person with dyslexia.

Thomas channels this dynamic language into paintings and as someone who finds it more accessible to express themselves through colour than traditional language. Celestines’ semi-abstract artworks are visually striking and offer a unique insight into a child-like and imaginative world.

Aside from paintings, Celestine also creates sculptures using found materials. Thomas’ playful and whimsical sculptures continue to explore the themes of childhood and creativity, showcasing the ability to transform discarded objects into meaningful works of art.

Celestine encourages us to embrace childhood’s resourceful, playful, and colourful nature and appreciate everyday objects’ beauty and creativity that often go unnoticed. Her unique perspective and approach to art inspire us to see the world with fresh eyes and to find joy and wonder in the simplest things.

Biography

Biography

Thomas’ artistic journey began at Insight School of Art, where she gained invaluable insight into a dynamic and stimulating art environment, setting the stage for an intensive foundation and subsequent Fine Art degree at Middlesex University. While pursuing her studies, Thomas immersed herself in the exploration of colour, experimenting with various combinations and delving into research on how our perceptions and responses to colour may vary. Her passion extends beyond creating art, as she shares her knowledge by teaching at Insight School of Art. But it is not a one-way exchange of information, as Thomas finds that her students often inspire her in turn.

Thomas’ artistry has been showcased in various exhibitions throughout London and Scotland, including the recent and highly-acclaimed “Significant Other” at Art Bypass Gallery, “Differing Parallels,” a two-person show hosted by Insight School of Art in London, and “Unmute” in Scotland. She is set to debut her first solo exhibition at the prestigious Cass Art Flagship store in Angel, London, in Summer 2023.

Celestine is a proud member of the Society of Scottish Artists and Studio Fridays.
