Fiona’s practice is playful and multi faceted, expressing herself through printmaking and sculpture. She responds to found and encountered objects using a combination of explorative techniques ,using the results to direct the way forward.
There is a plan and no plan , her process starts spontaneously before experimenting and developing ideas .Her most recent body of work was sparked by the discovery of a cache of dumped broken vinyl records – this has led to a sustained period of cumulative practice – exploring a range of themes and ideas.
Fiona is inspired by and curious about things that have reached the end of their useful life and incorporates images of birds, which, for her, symbolise resilience in the face of adversity and act as a metaphor for the inner strength and adaptability humans present when confronted with sudden change and challenges . The medium of printmaking offers a wealth of processes that can interact with each other and Fiona is currently exploring techniques which connect monoprinting processes and etching .
