| Statement | My work focuses on swimmers, the seashore, and birds. I’m interested in how movement, gesture and atmosphere can be held in paint and printing ink, and how patterns, like water reflections and the flight of birds, create structure within an image. I make work that captures recognisable moments of joy. |
| Biography | Jane Gardiner graduated from Glasgow University Medical School in 1998 and has worked as a GP partner since 2009. Alongside her medical career she has developed a steadily expanding artistic practice, first exhibiting at the PAI and RGI annual shows in 2009. She has continued to show regularly in open exhibitions since, as well as having had 2 solo shows and several small group shows with friends. A figurative painter and printmaker, Jane’s work centres on the human presence, how they move through water, and how gesture, colour and atmosphere communicate more than likeness alone. Her recent paintings explore swimmers, shorelines and the shifting relationship between figure and environment, while her printmaking focuses on birds in motion. She likes to draw on the full range of the medium used, whether etchings for precise, economical line, or oil paints for to subtle modulations of light and colour. Pentimenti and traces of earlier decisions remain visible, allowing time, movement and process to sit within the finished image. Across both paintings and prints, she aims to create work that is both emotional, full of movement, and rooted in close observation of the world. |
