| Statement | Victoria makes contemporary landscape paintings from her home studio in Angus. Exploring the wilderness of Scotland’s land and seascapes, she creates atmospheric paintings that celebrate nature’s vastness – the ever-changing drama of shifting elements and the dynamic interplay of light where sky, sea, and land meet. Horizon lines have long fascinated her – a connection rooted in her upbringing near the North Yorkshire Moors. The vast stretches of openness she grew up with continue to inform her work. Her paintings evoke a deep sense of expanse and calm, yet through expressive brushstrokes, rich textures, and bold colour contrasts, she captures the fleeting intensity of stormy skies and golden bursts of sunlight. The paintings are memories of these moments and while each artwork is a reflection from a particular place, they encompass numerous experiences – each painting lends a fragment of itself to the next. Her work is bold, striking and atmospheric. Through playful mark-making and an intuitive process, she embraces the serendipity that occurs along the way. Her deep respect for the natural world is central to every mark she makes – and it’s this connection she hopes to share with others through her paintings. Biography
| Biography | Victoria is a creative practitioner, primarily focussing on her fine art practice, but she has also enjoyed a variety of project work as a designer and educator. She graduated from Duncan of Jordanstone College of Art + Design with a BDes (Hons) in Constructed Textiles specialising in Gobelin tapestry weaving. She then went on to complete a Master of Fine Art. She exhibits throughout Scotland and the rest of the UK and has artworks in corporate and private collections across the world. In addition to her studio practice, Victoria also shares her knowledge and expertise by running creative workshops. The workshops aim to spark curiosity, nurture self-expression, and inspire playful exploration – with a strong focus on nature, wellbeing, and collaboration. Through design thinking, fine art techniques, and craft-making, participants of all ages are encouraged to discover new possibilities, develop skills, and enjoy the creative process. She has been commissioned by a number of organisations to run workshops, and for over 7 years was a freelance designer with the Learning Team at V&A Dundee where she collaborated with a team of creative practitioners co-designing workshops to deliver a world-class learning programme to schools, young people, families and the community. She began her career within an independent public arts agency, before moving into publishing within a SAC-funded company. Her career then expanded into design and making as a weaver at The Edinburgh Tapestry Company, alongside teaching design to degree-level students at DJCAD. She went on to become a director of a small creative company, while also curating and organising exhibitions and pop-up events, and facilitating the design and production of a range of publications. She worked in Higher Education for over ten years – this included the role of Project Co-ordinator at the University of Dundee’s Visual Research Centre where she supported practice-led research projects. As Co-ordinator for the Designing for the 21st Century research initiative (a 5-year, £6.5m joint initiative funded by AHRC and EPSRC) she worked with a multitude of HEI’s across the UK, which involved 41 projects and over 900 different research outputs. In 2010, Victoria established Project Stuff – a design and project co-ordination business. Clients include Glasgow School of Art, NHS, University of Dundee, University of Edinburgh and Dundee Contemporary Arts. She spent a number of years as an Associate with Open Change – a Dundee-based service design and innovation company – and produced assets for a variety of organisations including the Scottish Government, Historical and Environment Scotland, V&A Dundee, Abertay University, Dundee and Angus College and Skills Development Scotland. She also manages the digital content and social media for clients. Victoria is a member of Society of Scottish Artists, Visual Arts Scotland, and Angus Creatives
