Statement

Liz Douglas’ practice involves researching material from specific landscapes at both macro and micro level in order to make paintings, drawings and print.

Contemporary practices in both drawing and painting, in relation to traditional methods are used to make work that challenges her visual perception of landscape. She paints often on a large scale, layering paint to create surface texture, colour and structure. Her recent work paper works dialogue the handmade with the machine made.

She is particularly interested in the relationship between the natural world and the human world. The objects that emerge from her research material are used to develop new forms.
