I am interested in the depth of tone and atmosphere that is created by layering and juxtaposing colour and creating rich areas of stumble mark making. Inspired daily by the stunning landscape on my doorstep I strive to realise a dynamic and bold image but one that is very still, calm, composed and balanced. My paintings which are built up over time use familiar motifs such as the single tree or group of trees to draw the eye into my exploration of the painting plane.

Claire graduated with an MA in Fine Art from the University of Edinburgh and Edinburgh College of Art in 1997 and has been painting full time since 2009. She has exhibited widely throughout the UK with work accepted by the Royal Scottish Academy, the Royal Glasgow Institute for the Arts and by the Society of Scottish Artists for their prestigious annual exhibitions. A regular at the Affordable Art Fairs in London she has paintings in many private collections and will be showing at for the first time in New York in October 2018 at the Affordable Art Fair with the Brighton based gallery Cameron Contemporary Art with whom she has had four successful solo exhibitions since 2013.

Claire lives and works from her studio in the Scottish Borders. She also facilitates art education workshops for children and adults on a freelance basis for the National Galleries of Scotland, Scottish Borders Council, Live Borders and Allanbank Arts.
