Statement

I work within the Scottish tradition of realist painting characterised by artists such as the Glasgow Boys, the Colourists, and the Edinburgh School.

I like to paint pictures that are drawn from observation of everyday places, things, animals & people that illustrate particular stories or issues that are distinctive to a given place. I like to work with unusual compositions that are cropped & asymmetric, and work with a rich colour palette. My hope is that my paintings will get peoples attention and make them think about the subject or meaning underlying the image.
