Nicole’s current practice centres around a developing interest in symbolism. Objects that hold and contain are frequently employed as the central focus of paintings created as are surface renderings and the pairings of objects.
Colour and strong contrasts play an important role in the works produced by Nicole. With an interest in photography and the tradition of mise-en-scene subjects are selected and placed individually, or in a small grouping in a neutral, non-specific background. Nicole uses this backdrop to place focus on the object and highlight the reflective nature of their surface. The use of bold contrasts of colour, often red, draws the attention and adds a seductiveness to the overall composition.
