Call for New Satellite Associates

We’re delighted to welcome our new Satellite Coordinator, Calum Hall, whose wealth of experience and passion for connecting artists across Scotland makes them an inspiring addition to the SSA team.

A graduate of the Falmouth School of Art, Calum began their creative journey surrounded by the lush sub-tropical gardens of Cornwall, where they honed their skills in printmaking using photopolymer techniques. In 1997, with the backing of the Prince’s Scottish Youth Business Trust and Highlands and Islands Enterprise, they launched their own successful print and design business—spanning everything from promotional materials to elegant packaging design.

Over the past 15 years, they have worked at the heart of one of Scotland’s busiest arts organisations, An Tobar and Mull Theatre, where they’ve led as Marketing Manager and Visual Arts Curator.

Their own arts practice is grounded in the exploration of luminosity, impermanence, and material transformation. Drawing on indigenous aesthetic philosophies, using solarplates, copper, and zinc, their work fuses traditional printmaking with industrial processes—creating arresting pieces that balance ephemeral delicacy with bold modernity.

Now, as SSA’s Satellite Coordinator, Calum is excited to strengthen and expand the Satellite programme, helping bring together Scotland’s vibrant and diverse artistic communities and ensuring artists in every region have a voice, platform, and connection to national opportunities.

Call for New Satellite Associates

Join the SSA Satellite Network – Help Shape the Future of Art in Your Area

Are you passionate about connecting with artists in your community? Would you like to help shape opportunities for artists locally and across Scotland? The Society of Scottish Artists is expanding our dynamic Satellite Associate network, and we’re looking for enthusiastic members to join us.

The SSA Satellite Programme was launched in 2020 to establish creative links across Scotland’s many vibrant regions. Our Satellite Associates act as local champions—connecting the SSA with regional artists, spaces, and organisations, and ensuring that every corner of Scotland is part of our national conversation.

Over the past four years, our Satellites have been instrumental in:

  • Organising exhibitions, talks, and residencies from Shetland to the Borders.
  • Forging partnerships with local authorities and art spaces.
  • Increasing membership and visibility for artists in their communities.

Now, we’re growing our network across Scotland, and we want you to be part of it. This is a voluntary role, but one that brings real visibility, connection, and opportunity—both for you and for artists in your area.

We’re currently recruiting for Satellite Associates in:

  • Build links with art agencies and local authorities.
  • Identify and propose exhibition spaces in your region.
  • Help source local art couriers and storage hubs for exhibition logistics.
  • Share and promote talks, residencies, events, and other artist opportunities.

  • Be more visible in the Scottish art world—locally and nationally.
  • Make valuable connections with artists, curators, and arts professionals.
