MEMBER SPOTLIGHT | Emily Moore

The Society of Scottish Artists is home to a diverse and dynamic community of artists. To showcase the work of our members, we’ve launched a monthly member spotlight, where one SSA Member is chosen at random to be featured on our website and social media. This month, we are excited to highlight Professional Member, Emily Moore.

Emily Moore is based in Edinburgh and creates arresting landscape paintings using an amalgamation of personal source images – usually photographs taken to record her own travels and experiences. Each body of work is a documentation of those experiences, the creative process allowing Moore to recall each place and combine them to create new, anonymous landscapes.

The physical act of creating a piece, the surface and materials, has always been an important part of Moore’s practice. She works directly onto wooden birch panels, constructing the image in individual detailed layers, whilst retaining elements of the natural wood beneath. She is interested in utilising various materials to create a sense of depth and contrast within each piece.
