Statement

Ellis O’Connor is a visual artist based on the Outer Hebridean Island of North Uist who graduated in 2014 from Duncan of Jordanstone College of Art & Design with a Degree in Fine Art.
Since graduating Ellis has worked in residency programmes including ones in Iceland and Norway whilst exhibiting her work locally and internationally. She has recently returned from an expedition with the Arctic Circle Organisation to the High Arctic Archipelago of Svalbard.
Ellis uses the visual language of drawing and lithographic printmaking to challenge assumptions about the natural environment, to reinterpret the grandeur of natural land forms, and to re-present this visual information laden with power. As an artist, conservationist and a keen mountain climber Ellis aims to address the issues of climate change and wild land in her work to inspire others to take action for the future and show the significance of the natural earth around us.

Altogether, the works emphasise the fragility and sublimity of the land bringing the line, detail, texture and pattern together. By producing the work Ellis hopes it will give people a chance to connect with the land and respect the nature that is so wild around us, to then cultivate a deeper understanding and inspire others to make a difference.
