My work has been continually influenced by landscape and gardens, in particular the textural features, composition and colours in Japanese garden design. More recently, my preoccupation with surface texture and light has included references to the arctic landscapes of Norway and the varied geological features of northwest Scotland and the Outer Hebrides.

I have also been exploring ways of translating images from my paintings into Photopolymer Gravure or Solarplate prints. As these are monochrome or with very limited colour range, they involve a reassessment of tonal values and depth in the original painted images which are further transformed by the printing process.
