Photographs and sketches, mostly of the Edinburgh landscape, play their part; but mainly my work is constructed through process. It will involve applying and sometimes removing layers of paint and drawing: sometimes splattering and sometimes carefully reapplying the paint and continuing the whole process until satisfied with their depth and atmosphere.

Joan Doerr is a painter who works from her home studio in Edinburgh's West End. She was born and raised in Glasgow. Joan studied painting through Edinburgh College of Art's Lifelong Learning programme in the early 2000s.
Recent solo exhibitions include And Gallery in Bridge of Allan in 2015, House for an Art Lover in Glasgow in 2017 and Open Eye Gallery in Edinburgh in 2015 and 2018. She has exhibited widely across the UK, including the Royal Academy Summer Exhibition in London in 2014, 2016 and 2017.
