etching with thread

3 bronze objects

My work involves 3 dimensional drawing using pva glue, jute and other yarns combined with fruit and vegetable remains. The exploration and handling of materials is important to me.

Emergent forms can be freestanding or installed as clouds or constellations. A few are cast in bronze or pewter, and I return to two dimensions using a soft ground etching technique where forms briefly have direct contact with the etching plate. My etchings can hover between 2 and 3 dimensions with additions after printing.

My practice is a search for ways of manifesting unseen, unheard sensations from my inner world. Nevertheless, I aim to make a varied visual experience that makes people smile.

I often find myself thinking of Eva Hesse when not actively working, and also Louise Bourgeois.

A visual artist based in Dundee, Leslie was born in Edinburgh and brought up in Staffordshire. She returned to live in Caithness in 1984 and, once retired from her career in social work, studied at Duncan of Jordanstone, graduating with BA Fine Art in 2003. Remaining in Dundee after this, she took a WASPS studio and after a number of years her current practice emerged.
