Statement
My practice is strongly influenced by my immediate surroundings. I use commonplace imagery to organise the pictorial space, using forms that occupy and give perspective within the substrate. I strive to physically construct the space within the composition of my work and aim to recreate the space whilst questioning ideas such as the relationship of form to material and symmetry/asymmetry, acknowledging the link between formal and abstract. The work revolves around a sense of history, of the spaces that inspire and the history of the journey making the work, this leads me to chance compositions, accidental, intuitive and always finding in amongst the making.Responding always to shifts between perspectives, real space and flat surface. I continue to explore the imagined and observed through the process of Layering, repetition, cut-outs, washout and transforming. Colour is an imperative component within my work, although the colour comes from intuitive reaction it is based and triggered by memory of colour within a place. The detail and form within architecture, intricate lines, structures and vast space are continually explored.
