As a visual artist I balance a self-directed studio practice with interdisciplinary collaboration and participatory engagement. I have undertaken many artistic residencies, research-driven projects and public art commissions. This has allowed me to develop and employ a wide range of skills in creativity and collaborative design, often working with musicians, drama practitioners, designers and makers, to create art in context. I have developed focused, co-creative projects, for a variety of arts organisations and have successfully delivered well-received public artworks, social and visual interventions within public spaces as well as within galleries and non-traditional art spaces.
In painting, the body; its multitude of functions and its relationship with the material properties of paint, are main concerns. I use it as a framework to explore the subjects of physicality, intimacy and sensation. I create intricately patterned surfaces, fusing a myriad of cultural references from diagrammatic engravings, arabesques, micrographic reproductions and cellular structures, in an attempt to explore and reflect the correlation that exists between them all. In recent work, scenes which invoke the natural world also reveal an anatomy of patterns that persist and endure throughout life.
