The starting point for my paintings is usually places that I know well and which I am fond of. I paint in Edinburgh and also in The East Neuk of Fife and find these places a rich source of subject matter for my painting. I like to say that I am in a relationship with painting. Painting makes me feel good, and when I feel I am improving what I call my 'vocabulary', particularly with colour, then I feel rewarded.

I attended Edinburgh College Of Art from 1977 to 1981 in the Drawing and Painting School. I made my home in Edinburgh where I paint, and I also have a studio in Pittenweem, Fife.
