Statement
| Statement | My work explores the tensions of being alive – in layered, semi-abstract paintings and drawings. I work in mixed media and collage, and the process of making with my hands, incorporating accident and erasure, is an important part of the work. I aim to create pictorial spaces where a kind of alchemical process means exploring and examining the elements of lived, embodied experience, and finding some temporary resolution to the inherent tensions of being human. I’m interested in how form emerges from the process, in combining observation, memory, imagination and happenstance. The tensions between abstraction and realism are a constant fuel. I aim to create work that provokes curiosity, an emotional engagement, and hopefully, recognition.
