My latest adventure is getting my master’s in Applied Art and Social Practice at Queen Margaret University. Here’s what I’ve been doing: writing research proposals on “Curating a Community of Practice of Multi-disciplinary Creative Rebels.”, reflecting on my artistic vision and conceptual framework, planning and marketing a cultural project, and in the fall I will be running a community workshop.

Biography

Biography

I’m FreeCandy, a multi-disciplinary artist whose work defies easy categorization. After growing up on a farm drawing the nature around me, I ventured to study fine art photography at university in New York. There I was challenged to expand my notion of what art could be, experimenting wildly like a mad scientist.

Eventually, I moved back to my birth city of Baltimore, and my art took a darker, more manic, and grotesque turn, reflecting the grit of the city. Think John Waters by way of wharf rats and misplaced makeup. Longing for better weather and a more vibrant arts scene, I fell into the embrace of Austin’s friendly faces and live music.

In Austin, I fearlessly explored numerous creative outlets – skinny dark alleys that revealed my multifaceted talents. But it was after Austin that I moved to Edinburgh to pursue art full-time, instantly falling in love with Scotland and feeling at home in this vibrant city. I took a painting course at the Edinburgh College of Art and am now working towards a master’s degree in Applied Arts and Social Practice at Queen Margaret University.

Uncompromising, irreverent, and ceaselessly creative, I grab the artistic bull by the gonads. I twirl, kick, and contort it into new forms, suavely plucking out a wedgie as only a true artist can. Brace yourself for my bold, genreless vision – as unpredictable and unconventional as I am.
