Statement

My recent paintings of botanical gardens and glasshouses are inspired by the vibrant, colourful landscapes of Paul Gauguin and the formal structured compositions of Indian Mughal paintings and Japanese prints. I aim to bring these influences together in my work through a combination of realism and stylisation.

Biography

At Edinburgh Art College I studied fine art and printmaking. After an enjoyable and stimulating career in teaching I retired early to concentrate on my own work and since 2021 I have had paintings accepted for the annual exhibitions of the SWA, the AAS, the RSW and the RSA. I have also shown work in solo and joint exhibitions at the Scottish Arts Club.

I am one of four artists who contributed watercolour illustrations to the book ‘A Sketchbook of Edinburgh’, first published by Birlinn 2017 and reprinted in 2019.
