Statement

Denise Wyllie is an independent painter-printmaker with wide experience in painting and printmaking. She is currently painting profusely and creating silkscreens. Being an expert in many printmaking processes: her printmaking has been exhibited widely in the important museums and galleries of the UK and internationally.

‘Painting enables me to capture light play and nature’s energy with lively brush marks. Printmaking frees me to explore experimental colour combinations. My life has changed and I am now able to express positive energy without being shy about using bright colours’.

Wyllie makes many versions of an edition, varying the printed layers of ink with different hand drawn stencils to create different moods. Wyllie is memerised by nature’s unrestrained abundance.

Denise Ballard Wyllie,

Works both independently and organises exhibitions with international artists groups in the UK, France, Russia, Japan.

Member of the Society of Scottish Artists since 2021, an Associate member RE – Royal Society of Painter-Printmakers 2021- now, Participant studio in Manifestampe’s French printmaking festival Fete de l’estampe  2018-2023,  Committee Member / Director the PMC (Printmakers Council UK) for 10 years, co-ordinator for Art-Contact Russia-UK 1992- 2022, Wyllie O Hagan artist partnership 2002 – 2018.

Her prints are held in 14 international museum collections including the Victoria & Albert Museum, UK.

Denise Wyllie has an Hons degree from Kingston School of Art and 4 impressive postgraduate printmaking qualifications; Brighton College of Art , Central School of Art,  Masters degree Wimbledon School of Art,  invited printmaking Research at The Slade School of Fine Art with Prof Barto Dos Santos & Stanley Jones MBE.

Wyllie’s focus is consistently landscape printmaking with forays into projects such as  Science-Art, a 2 year residency at a Cancer Research UK laboratory culminating in several artworks including a 42 meter screen print (DNA) artwork that hangs in The Royal Mint, and a 20m piece in which she championed cancer advocacy groups in the USA and UK.

Wyllie has project-managed and led mixed-funded urban outreach with multi-ethnic/ multi-religions groups in London, taught in printworkshops, computer graphics studios and lectured in art history, photography and life drawing.
