| Statement | As an artist, I work to develop prints that speak to me and to others. Prints that tell of the qualities that exist both in the natural and the built environments. Part of the process before I begin to work on a print is to draw, through line I can capture and simplify the image. I do not merely seek to capture the image with the prints. I want to give an awareness of the environment around everyone and allow them to see art in even the mundane. I try, with every finished work to capture the sense of place within the work. My work encompasses more than printmaking working with drawings, collage and 3D works. |
| Biography | Born in Stirling, Scotland I have since lived in many parts of the United Kingdom through my life. From earliest childhood the built environment has always had great meaning for me. This directed my career choice towards architecture studying for a degree in architecture and graduating in the early 1970s from university in Glasgow. Architecture was the focus of life for the next 30 years and it was not until the new century that thoughts turned to other ways of expressing my creative energies. It was then following a workshop course at Edinburgh Printmakers that an interest in printmaking developed. My focus is now on printmaking. I work with different techniques: lino-cut, photo lithography, woodblock, collagraph and etching. |
