Statement
Statement | An acrylic painter, I am interested in creating shapes and colour to create harmony. My other passion is collage. I love the freedom and serendipity of collage in the way shapes and colours relate to one another. I am attracted by city scape, landscape and figurative painting. I studied drawing with Chris Hough, and painting with Tony Hull at the City Lit in London. On returning to Edinburgh I have taken year-long courses at Leith School of Art (Landscape with Paul Mowat, the Figure course and Art and Spirituality ), as well as courses with Gemma Derbyshire and Owen Normand at Paintbox. I am keen to find ways to integrate art and spirituality into my day to day life. I am a member of Women with ARTitude, a small group of women artists based in and around Edinburgh. We exhibited on-line at Edinburgh Palette in March 2021, and at the Union Gallery in Edinburgh in November 2021. |
Biography
Biography | Not allowed to take ‘A’ Level art af school because “it won’t get you into University,” I had to put art on hold until running my own business gave me the freedom and time to devote to it. I then went back to basics at the City Lit in Holborn, London, devoting myself to drawing, painting and collage. On returning to Edinburgh I have continued to undertake a variety of courses including year-long courses with Leith School of Art. I have a PhD in Social Policy from Edinburgh University, and spent two years in group analysis for people in the caring professions. The thread throughout my career has been developing people, and this has taken me into a range of different settings including Barnardo’s, tertiary education, whisky manufacturing, local authorities and the senior civil service. Latterly I have run my own coaching business, coaching senior leaders in the public sector. I am currently completing my training with the Epiphany Group with a view to becoming a spiritual director. |
