Observational drawing and painting are central to my work. I use drawing, painting, printmaking and sculpture to focus on people and their relationships within spaces, through portraiture and spatial studies. I explore the spaces between artist and subject, the spaces within paintings, and the spaces between viewers, objects and artworks in museums and galleries.

I see a portrait as a dialogue between the artist, the subject and the viewer. I’m constantly searching for a more honest way to express the way I see the sitter. I am intrigued by the contrast between the slower, cumulative act of drawing or painting, and the way we increasingly relate to the world by instantly capturing and sharing images.
