Edinburgh based artist, Ian Stuart Campbell has worked for over a decade on his “The Architectural Tourist” project involving ‘rough’ sketching recording fascinating buildings and cities throughout Europe. The project is available in magazines and in two book volumes entitled: The Architectural Tourist (1) and (2), both published by the RIAS

Stuart’s original B+W sketches are drawn using Staedler Pigment Ink pens chosen for lightfast and waterproof qualities and ease of use in the open air. His Sketches are drawn on Fabriano 220/300 gsm smooth paper, or nearest equivalent. Following the pandemic larger scale studio images with more detail have been produced from sketch books using colour polychromos pencils. Stuart’s works have been exhibited recently in Venice, Paris, Stuttgart, Poland, and Matera.

Stuart’s solo exhibitions include:’Athens to Andalucia’ at the Scottish Arts Club 2020; “Norway to Naples”, Edinburgh Sculpture Workshop 2017; SAC (2018) and JP’s Edinburgh; ‘Out of their Heads’, Scottish National Portrait Gallery 2017 ; and “Adventures in Space” at The Lighthouse Glasgow. 2017
